I'm not sure where to turn, since Adobe's support is so abysmal. I've had several issues since Lightroom 2.4 (now I'm on 2.6). There's work arounds, so I havent' complained, but it is getting annoying:

1. Every time I launch LR it asks to backup my gallery (Backup set to every 7 days) even if I had previously launched it (And ran backup) 10 minutes priot.

2. File associations for LRCATs has gone missing since 2.5. When I doubleclick a .lrcat file, it loads in Adobe Reader.

3. If I install a plug-in, it's valid for that session, but when I exit and reload Lightroom it has no record of that plug-in, so I have to reinstall it again.

4. If I make any preference changes, it doesn't seem to know about it next time I load.

This seems to be the case with all of my catalogs. If I had to make a recommendation, it would be to reinstall the application, but it seems that each of the upgrades kind of does a full install everytime.

Make sure Lightroom isn't running then do a search of your C: drive for a file named Lightroom 2 Preferences.agprefs and rename it.

You may have to redo your file associations manually but try renaming your agprefs file as a first step and see if that doesn't clear up any of your problems.

Each upgrade remove the program files but your preferences, presets, plug-ins, etc. are kept intact which is why your problem is persisting through upgrades.

THANK YOU!!!! 3 of my 4 issues have been resolved. Actually, I couldn't find this file. For whatever reason, the attribute of it was set to Hidden (Perhaps a bug in LR3?). Anyway, it doesn't check integrity everytime I start, saves installed plug-ins and preference changes! Thanks again. The only thing that doesn't work is the file association, and that has been broken since 2.6RC.

Vista The file association isn't there, and when I right click, open with, it doesn't list Lightroom. When I browse to lightroom.exe and then open the file, it doesn't open either.
Seems my two ways to open a lrcat is to launch lightroom and then select one (often causing lightroom to relaunch) or drag the lrcat to the lightroom icon on my desktop.

Hold down the CTRL key then double-click the Lightroom desktop icon. From the dialog box that appears, press the "Change" button to navigate to the location of your catalog and select the catalog you want opened. Then check the option that states "Always load this catalog on startup " then press the "Continue" button.

BTW, I noticed you made reference to Lightroom 3 but you claim to be using Lightroom 2.6. What version are you really using?

Its always a good idea to set up your operating system (Vista) to show hidden files and file name extensions. Go to Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization and select Folder Options. In the Folder Options dialog box, choose the View tab. Now enable "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" and uncheck the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types" and click to OK button.

Doing this will make your life much easier when searching for files like the Lightroom.agprefs file.

Thanks again for your help. I'm using LR 2.6, although I tried LR 3 beta when it initially came out. I'll eventually move to LR 3, but right now LR 2.6 is more up to date with my 7D.
