What are your thoughts on a 'Photojournalist' contest. Would people be interested or is it too hard?

I think that it would be a good stretch for everyone! But, what exactly are we looking for in photos for a "photojournalist" contest? A single picture that tells a story or a series? Sorry to say that I'm not very savy on what it would take to enter a contest like that.

Digital Rebel XT 350D, EF-S 18-55mm Kit Lens, Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro, 420 EX Speedlite, NEW BG-E3 Grip!!

I'm happy to do reflections at some stage, but I would like to wait a while. We had 'double take' fairly recently, which prompted many reflection related photographs.

I love the idea of a Photojournalism contest. I think it may be a little hard to judge though. I mean, how much would the "story" weigh on the judging??

Here's an Idea: Advertising. Basically, pic a subject and "sell it" with a photograph.

How about a mini marathon?

Let me explain. In Copenhagen a newspaper arrange a 24 hours marathon where contestants get 24 subjects, one for each hour and have to produce one photo for each.

Maybe we could do a mini with lets say 4 subjects that need to be shot within 24 hours on a certain date.

I have never participated in one of these marathons.

Great suggestions, thanks! I'll give it some thought and then probably announce the next contest over the weekend.

That's a really interesting idea. How does the voting work? Would we essentially have 4 separate contests all running simultaneously?

L8r,

Yeah, I hadn't really thought of that. Advertising is a cracking idea though. Should we make everyone photograph the same item, or would they be able to choose the item they wanted to 'sell'?

I am not sure, I will see if I can find out. But I think all photos are evaluated as a whole and the winner will be the on that solved all subjects best.

I could not find anything that describes the voting but I did find the official website

Here You can also see the winners from last year.

They actually run 2 competitions. A classic and digital. In the classic each contestant receive a 24-picture filmrole and they can only use one shot per subject! The subjects are given to contestants 4 at a time every 4 hours.

Following is the only I found about the "voting"

It is up to you to interpret the individual themes. When the picture series are judged the focus is on the creative idea and the composition of the picture - but it also have to be technically OK.

I think you should be able to chose the item yourself. I also do think it would have to limited to an "item." You could advertise anything. But it would have to be distinguishable. Say like a restaurant, or even something like an ati smoking add....of course I'd have to haunt you for that one! lol. But it would have to just be a photograph of course (this would be the hardest part for me!!! lol. I love design work.)

Just a thought.
