Is it me or is there just a surplus of these up for sale? I remember a few months back these were not up for sale often but not every other minute I see one up for sale .. an abundance of all of the different type from IS to Non and 2.8 - f/4.

Is it because of the rumors or because of the season we are on?

Also, being that I mostly going to be using it in the studio should I just get the F/4 vices the F/2.8 or should I just spend the extra $$ and get the F/2.8 for those occasions that I will take it outdoors?

I guess it is the right time of the year to move on or try something new. And then there are the persistent rumours of a new 70-200 F/2.8L IS appearing early next year, together with the 1Ds Mk IV.

Maybe some people are taking an advance on this possibility happening?

Kind regards, Wim

those are some of Canon's best sellers... seems logic that this would also mean there's more on the used market as well

Also, given the hefty price increase of new, some folks bought (for example) a 70-200 f/2.8L IS 12 months ago for $1250. I've seen FS ads here selling a used copy of the lens for as much at $1500-1600!!!

My feelings are that some would flip a lens for profit if it doesn't get much use. And since so many would like to have the 70-200 2.8 IS, it's a good deal for both. The seller might profit and the buyer is playing less than new cost.

I'm looking for one of these as well but not the IS or 2.8 model. I keep getting knocked out at the last minute with my bids on that "other" site. They still command a fair price "used" when compared to the price of a new one. I'm still looking.

I started with the F4 (IS didn't exist then) then upgraded to the 2.8 then upgraded to the 2.8 IS.
I think there are enough different 'flavors' of this lens that people upgrade. Weirdly it seems to occur in cycles...
