Ever since I found this yard with the feeders, I can't resist going back just about every day, trying for the perfect shot. Thankfully, it's only 15 miles round trip. I can't wait til we get a day that isn't overcast. I don't think that's going to happen for awhile. :(

Wow! No wonder you like that hot spot, Mike. Love the male Downy and the Red-bellied.

Good for you. I have no place for a feeder, so have to rely on luck.

Wait, you found a yard? What do the owners think of you in it?

Ya know, if you put out some suet and seeds in your own yard, all those birds will appear in your yard too. :)

Thanks all, for your comments.

Joe, both downys are males. You just can't see the red on the one.

Sparker, I have no yard for a feeder either. My luck was driving thru this small town and seeing some flashes of red flitting thru the air. The cardinals highlighted this spot for me.

Mitch, I've introduced myself to the owners, and they are delightful people and have even had me in their house. They also have a small butterfly garden and tiny pool, in their backyard. They have orioles in the spring, that nest in their neighbor's weeping willow. I can't wait for spring. They're delighted to have me in their yard. ;) They've already recieved a few pictures from me. They live about a block from a river, so I'm sure that helps with attracting them. I have a small yard with way too many squirrels. I've tried attracting birds, but all I got were mainly sparrows. I do have a suet feeder out and get the downys and nuthatches, but due to the size of my yard and closeness of houses, there is no good vantage point for good photos. I really don't mind someone else feeding them so I can get good photos. :) When I retire, I'm going to move to Lacrosse, WI and find a nice house with a nice yard, not too far from the river and live out the rest of my life feeding and photographing birdies.

Nice find, Mike. Sounds like you've got some nice yard-owners there :) I bet they'd love a print one day ;)

Nice shot, I would have thought that if you're travelling that far I'd go out into the wild.
