This past Sunday I shot a cyclocross race in the City of Brotherly Love. This was the day after the big Nor' Easter. Philly had gotten 24" of snow, but the race still went on. A lot of the racers actually rode their bikes to the race from various parts of the city. A fun time was had by all!

The Junkyard Dog:

Any cyclocross race that doesn't serve beer SUCKS!

Instead of barriers to dismount and carry the bike over, they had an old matress pit:

Hardcore man- the dude's actually SMOKING during the race:

I really need to trade my 16-35L f/2.8 in for a Mark II version! This pic came out kinda cool anyway:

Everytime they rode by the crowd, they were pelted by like 25 snowballs all at once:

I really enjoyed that series. I'm active in Delaware in a Bicycle Advocacy group to get better bike lanes, etc It's always great to see more bike photos.

Beer, guys jumping 29'rs, snowballs, and some questionable attire. Seriously, what more could a thread possibly ask for? I am very happy I took the time to have a look, well done man!

Nice - I couldn't make it, after digging out several times in the western 'burbs. One for the ages, I am glad you got down there! Nice captures, well done.

Thanks all!

Kirk, I was wondering what happened to you, LOL. You live in the suburbs and you couldn't make it? Dude, I worked all night the night before, got home at 6 a.m., snowblowed and shoveled my entire house, then drove 80 miles to Philly, shot the race, drank some beer, then went straight back to work and worked all night, LOL.

Check out this video: http://vimeo.com/8344884 (external link) One of the riders had a helmet cam. Funny stuff. You can see me at 5:27 taking this photo (that's the video camera mounted to the top of his helmet):

Love the series. Nice variety that captures the spirit of the event.

I shot a 'suburban cyclocross' event last September that had a similar 'fun' emphasis. Two of the three classes had a beer drinking requirement. Maybe I'll post a thread from it. Cyclocross riders seem to be the closet party animals of the cycling scene

Canon 20D w/grip, 300D, Powershot SX100 w/HF-DC1 flash, Canon 70-200 f/2.8L, 85 f/1.8, 17-55 f/2.8 IS, 50 f/1.8, 580EX and some other stuff...
