Thinking of building a trip to give my wife for Christmas. (I'm the photographer) She has always wanted to see the Grand Canyon, so I'm thinking 7 days/6 nights with the canyon, petrified forest, Sedona and the Hoover Dam areas as the centerpieces of the trip.

So my question is, what to expect weather wise, and would I be better off doing this region at another time of year and just doing Florida in Febrary?

Opinions - Residents?? Frequent visitors? Photographers of the region?

I've been in that area during Jan-Feb and it worked out fine. Love my GC shots with a little snow around, was disappointed there was no snow in Sedona. Gotta tell you, though, it gets mighty cold waiting for sunrise over the canyon.

I also visited the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Hoover Dam in February. Like Sparker1 said, it can get pretty cold in those areas. We stayed in Williams, which is south of the Grand Canyon, and it reached 3 degrees in the morning. However, the cold keeps many tourist away so the roads and places were pretty empty. The views are beautiful, especially the Grand Canyon with the snow on its walls. If you do decide to go, let me know, I can give you some tips as I pretty much visited the same places at the same time you are planning to (our trip consisted of Los Angeles -> Phoenix -> Montezumas Castle/Well -> Sedona -> Slide Rock -> Grand Canyon -> Williams -> Hoover Dam -> Las Vegas -> Los Angeles).
