Podcasting?

For those of you not familiar with what this is, check out Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.or​g/wiki/Podcasting

To summarize it quickly, it's basically a radio-style show that, rather than being broadcasted live, is saved as an MP3 or other audio format that can be downloaded by listeners and listened to on their portable MP3 player, primarily iPods.

I've been subscribing to more and more Podcasts lately and have been looking for a good photography-based one. I've only found 1 decent one so far at http://www.tipsfromthe​topfloor.com

I was thinking about it, and I thought it might be an interesting project for POTN to take up if someone were willing to do it on a somewhat regular basis and had a wealth of information to share about photography. Perhaps each episode talk about a specific topic like this guy does, as well as having a spot at the beginning to discuss any new things going on, such as Canon acknowledging that the 20D grips are faulty, Microsoft adding RAW support, etc. Maybe have it so we could all record questions to send in, have played on the cast and answered, etc.

I know having this forum helps out a ton and really leaves no need for having that to ask our questions, and the forums allow for discussion on topics that would be brought up... but having tips and information in an audio format for easy listening while traveling, etc would be an interesting concept, I think.

Any thoughts?

I'd offer myself to do the actual Podcasts, but seeing as how I consider myself still very elementary in Photography, I feel like someone else's experiences might be a bit more worth while...
Of course, I suppose there's always the possibility of having others submit fairly detailed segments to have incorporated that I could relay if needbe.

I'm not an audio whiz, but I'm sure I could do enough sound editing to make the Podcast sound decent enough

Again, I am not that knowledgeable about photography to be hosting a show. Of course, I could help setup the feeds and all that goodness.

cablevision used to have a weekly photo tips show on one of their optium cable magazine shows. about 6 months ago the who thing went the way of the doh-doh bird.

but it would be a cool idea. part technique article, part dpreview-review type of discussion,
and it could have a companion website of photos.

yeah, that's kind of the idea I had in mind... maybe start off with an intro, go into some current news in the photography world, discuss some kind of tip/trick, maybe review a new lens (though most reviews on my part would have to be based on other reviews unless someone would be willing to donate new lenses ).
One thing I'd like to see as well would be to have kind of an "out in the field" type thing where you talk about what you're doing as you take a photo and walk through your thoughts and process of post processing, maybe, and post the resulting picture on the site (the version straight out of the camera and after editing).

Maybe even also have a commentary on some of the more popular POTN threads at the current time, such as the POTN strap ordering thread, the thread about the 20D's grip, etc.

Judging from the responses so far, it seems like there at least would be enough support to start something like this.... if I can find my microphone I might try to put together a sample one just to see what everyone thinks sometime in the next couple days.

Don't see how POTN podcasting would add value to what is already out there given the time it would take people to write opinions, features and reviews, collate, edit, and then format it all. Content would have to be significantly better than I can get already. I'm sure I can find info on pretty much any aspect of photography via a web search within minutes and without the hassle of downloading stuff and uploading to my mP3. Sure I can listen as I walk around but I doubt that would make me want to do it on a regular basis. And what if most of it is stuff I dont want to hear? Do I have to keep flipping forward until I do find something? I can skim read on the web and know what bits I am interested in so I don't have to listen to a whole podcast to know if it is worth my trouble. That is irritating.

Apparently not all the info on the old worldy wide webberoonie is as cosher as you might wish for...

I have downloaded a couple of photography related podcasts from somewhere or other in the past. The fact that I have not downloaded any more kinda suggests I was not impressed!
