It's the same old question.... Can I use my Nikon SB-50DX on a Canon 500D?

You might coax it to fire, but you wouldnt have any controls. Would be kinda pointless

Yeah I was doing a shoot with a buddy that uses Nikon D3s and SB-900s, I didn't have my 580exII on me at the time (it was just stuff for work) and I tried the SB-900 on my 1DmkIII, the camera would fire the flash but it kept outputting a 1/1 flash, even if I set it on manual. So no I'd say you couldn't really use a Nikon flash on a Canon. However they work fantastic for OCF :)

Not sure about the SB900 but the SB25 in manual mode works on the 5dmkII.

Zack Arias uses Nikon flashes on a his 5DmkII.

I have an SB-900 and it works just fine with my 1DmkIII. Both the SB-900 and the camera have to be set to manual mode. And the power level of the flash needs to be set manually for the distance of the subject and the aperture and ISO set on the camera. Or, you can leave the camera on manual mode and set the flash to Auto mode so that the flash can determine the exposure for you.

I've used both a SB-25 and SB-800 in manual mode on my 40d.

I was kinda hoping, due to a paperwork glitch, that he'd somehow leave TWO at my house.

Really? That's weird I wonder why I was having so much trouble with it. Probably my overall inexperience with Nikon products to be honest. I do like their flashes though, in my opinion they are far better than Canon's offerings, and have been for some time.
