Canon 450D

basically what the title says - i took a bunch of photos before i realised that i hadn't put my memory card in there, and now i need to get them out. i've done a search on the internet and haven't found anything... does anybody know what i can do?

also, and this is really important, a couple of weeks ago, i dropped my camera (i know, it was horrible) and my screen doesn't work. the camera works fine but the screen is black all the time. so if the solution to my problem needs the screen... then i'm in bigger trouble than i thought.

my camera's still got a 2 year warranty left on it but i can't get it repaired yet because i'm out of the country for another 2 months.

i hope one of you knows the solution! :(

Afraid there's nothing you can do. There is no internal memory other than the card, so the pictures never were saved.

Which is a very good reason to set the custom function that will refuse to take a shot if there's no memory card.

Sorry...

Can't you put a blank card in the camera and copy the pics from the internal memory to the card?
oops..nevermind

Hey, if you took pictures without a memory card, it doesn't get saved anywhere. It'll just click and show you in the preview window, but it's no where. It's just display info and is gone as soon as the picture disappears from that window(ie, next image or when the camera was turned off).

Umm...I'm sorry to say but I'm pretty sure those pictures are lost. If you don't have a memory card installed they don't have anywhere to be stored and are thus washed away when the buffer dumps.

450 doesn't have internal memory. All it has is a small cmos battery for your menu options. Not for your images.

this is the worst news i've heard in a reallllllllllly long time.

okay, BUT, i've turned the camera off several times since taking this pictures (which are really important to me which is why i'm so desperate to get them!), and i'm sure they're being displayed on preview. i know i said my camera's screen isn't working, and it isn't, but.... and this will sound stupid... the camera's screen is blacked out except for a few blurry lines which i can distinguish colour changes from when i press the right/left arrow buttons while "flicking" through the images.

Most cameras only have a buffer memory that holds the picture until it's shuffled to the non-volatile memory. You're out of luck on this one.

There is no storage memory. Only a RAM buffer that gets wiped after the initial preview.

When you take a picture without a card in a Canon dSLR the picture never exists. Why Canon's allow this to happen as the default menu setting is a mystery, and one of the first things I turn off when I get a new camera.

I'm sorry to hear this.
What's worse is that the LCD actually warns you that "No CF Card" is installed but since your LCD is broken you never saw that. That's just an unfortunate coincidence of bad things.

I just got my 7D and this was the very first function that I changed. I never let any of my cameras take a picture unless there is a memory card in the camera.

I've never understood this "shoot without card" feature. Why would you ever want to take photos that aren't saved anywhere and just deleted from the buffer?

Make sure the camera with the lens you've mounted and battery works without having to find a card... do it all the time...
