JUST CURIOUS to know more about this L lens....

I DO NOT NEED IT...however, I may entertain the thought of getting it as trade for one of my EFs lens.

Why? You have a 17-35 2.8 and a 24-70 2.8 L. I'd sell it with your 50D; or sell the efs lens after you sell the 50D body. Your current lenses are better than that older 2.8 lens..

Are you collecting UWA zoom lenses? You already have a 17-40 and a 17-35.

I'd sell off the 17-35, keep the 17-40 and skip this old 20-35. If you really need f/2.8 in an UWA then pick up a used EF 16-35/2.8 or save up for the new 16-35/2.8 II.

I don't think the Tamron 17-35 f/2.8 is better than the 20-35 f/2.8L. In ANY way. I would bet I'm not the only one who would share this belief.

Not really the 17-35 is a lens I use when I shoot at the clubs for those gigs.
It helps because of the 2.8 aperture,aside from the fact that its ridiculously sharp ,I also have been using my 50D in that environment,because I do not want to stress too much that some drunk idiot will mess with the expensive ff stuff,so the nightlife has its setup and for the pro stuff has it setup, maybe this doesnt make too much sense,but it does to me.

I would love to get my hands on the 16-35/2.8 and say goodbye to the 17-40 but thats not happening anytime soon.

The person who was interested in a trade, is thinking about it, he is not too par on the lens deal,but whatever he wanted to trade out the 75-300mm for the 20-35mm. I said I do not mind, but we havent reached that swap yet.
