Need Some Help (Printing)

Well I ordered an 8x12 of a picture from Cord Camera. Picked it up today and it is way too dark, doesn't look anything like it does on my PC. Am I missing something?
I ordered some pictures from Adorama before, they turned out fine but not from Cord Camera. I wouldn't expect them to make a mistake.

FIrst question - have you calibrated your monitor?

If not, thats the issue. Monitors are generally WAY too bright and post processing on them makes for a picture thats actually too dark when viewed/printed on calibrated equipment.

OTherwise i can only think its a colourspace issue.

I have a laptop, it's not too bright at 50%. So would my best bet be to overexpose it a ton and hope for the best?

Okay nevermind it was my brightness. I adjusted it to what the print looks like and will edit from there and get a reprint. Now the print looks like it has a purple tint even though it's supposed to be B&W, any ideas?

Like someone mentioned above, calibrate your monitor. Also, try to get the printer profile for the machine at the printing place.

Also, make sure that the printer does not "auto correct".
