This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #245".
This is all about having fun so have at it!!
This round ends Saturday, December 26th at 10:00pm EST

In ACR: 2 versions, one lighter and one darker; on both: white balance, warm filter.
In PS: the two versions on 2 layers, then blended using mask based on the dark version, inverted & gaussian blurred, with manual burns and dodges.

Duplicated background, levels adjustment, copy tree, invert and reduce opacity to make reflection, change blend mode, paint dark sepia effect and create border.

I ran this like an HDR, but it only a pseudo one. Opened in Photoshop as RAW then duplicated +1 and -1 exposure, blended them, then went and adjusted certain color ranges in Saturation, then finally reduced noise and sharpened slightly.

Duplicated layer, created a mask off the red channel and inverted it. Change to luminosity blending mode, set a purple orange gradient on layer underneath and changed blending mode. Combined two layers through some other blending mode (i forgot which one)and did another red mask to the original image. Put the two together after an opacity change and did some curves and levels.

Sorry for the delay, I was out last night...

Great bunch of edits, here are my comments:

Palladium - The colors look great, esp near the bottom of the picture, but I thought too much of the tree was lost.
Lore - Nice clean edit. Your edit reminds me of how cold it was that morning.
Coops61 - I like this a lot, nice coloring in the sky from the grad tint. I would have like to have seen the tree a little more.
Marcoj70 - Nice one. I like that you brighten while keeping the noise in the background trees under control.
reisset - Good to see it with a different crop. I cropped some of the left off also (though not as much).
NigelD - Nice job with the reflection. Very dramatic lighting...looks like I was shooting in a forest fire. :)
Monty - I never even considered b&w but I like this a lot. It seems to have really brought out all of the different textures in the shot.
BSmooth - Very realistic...probably the closest to what the scene actually looked like.
obnoxiousmom - I like how the sharpening seems to have brought the tree out Not sure about the colors...something funny about the magenta.
cccc - That's some very funky coloring, but it looks really cool. Very nice.

My top 3 were Monty, Coops and cccc, but for the winner I'm going with Monty. I like the crop, b&w conversion, and the whole thing just looks great to me.

Whoa -- Thanks Sean! It was nice having some time to play this game again.

I went with B&W because of all the great colorful edits -- well done all!

Nice work Monty!

Great entries everyone.

Wish I could have played this round, but I'm on an uncalibrated laptop at the moment.
