I've photographed sea world shows before in my old Fujifilm S5200. The water there always posed some problems due it being highly reflective. Some of my shots were over exposed. I want to know how I can get vibrant blues and all other colors in my pictures there. I have a 28-135 Canon kit lens. Nothing fancy.

I also want to know about what little sprays of saltwater will do to my camera. My Fujifilm P&S was drenched by this guy (sat too close to the tank):

http://orcamistress101.deviantart.com/art/P-O-W-E-R-45606367 (external link) (shot by my fujifilm that day)

It worked fine after that. No problems. I just dried it with a towel I bought and continued shooting the rest of the day. It seems no matter where you sit, a little bit of water will always hit you. Is there anything specific I need to do to protect my Canon from the saltwater?

Thanks!

Others will chime in, but "drenched" by saltwater is not good for any camera other than the professional 1D/D3 cameras. Your 50D is mildly weather-sealed, but salt water entering any part of the camera is not a good thing. Even once it dries out, it leaves salt residue.

A circular polarizer would help with water reflections.

Looks like I'm heading to the top row then. :D

I'll look into those and try to get one soon.

This summer I took my 50D and 28-135mm and took some great shots at the shows. I sat a few rows above the splash section and it was all good.

Sit far enough away to avoid getting splashed. Use a circular polarizer to help with the glare.

Can't rent right now.. can't afford both the trip and rental of a lens. A 28-135 IS is all I have. :(

+1 on the polarizer

I'd also make sure to take your meter readings off the water, rather than off the subject. You will get better colors off the water that way.
