Flip-it, Lightsphere, or Lumiquest ?

I have the 2 L's. I like the lumiquest. Lightsphere is a waste, too heavy for the head and not effective at all. I'm getting the demb flip and give it a try.

Skip the LightSphere - it works in too narrow a range of situation to justify its bulk and cost.

I use the Lumiquest ProMax System with a bracket. I will probably order a Demb FlipIt as it looks like a reasonable piece of equipment at a reasonable price.

I also use a home made foam diffuser for snaps around the house.

My favorite is the Demp Flip-it. Very useful controlling light. Especially when combined with the Demp flash bracket.

I use the demb flipit (older jumbo/diffuser x2). I'll order his new modular version shortly.

It can control light very well aswell as throwing light forward as a good fill/catchlight. When you need to get direct flash you can achieve it in seconds (unlike the lumiquest promax product) by flipping the "card" away.

stofens and tiny on flash sofboxes will not soften the light when used in close proximity. Any bounced light will not be directional compared to flipit (turned to a wall etc etc).

The average person looking at the "lightbomb" lightsphere will like the results. The problem is it reduces light output. The quality of light is flat. Bouncing flash (flipit/ lumiquest promax)to the left/right will provide some more contrast to a persons face. The LS is ridiculously heavy.

I will admit I got some decent results using the lightsphere pointed directly at a subject when there is no walls to bounce. But I would get equal results using the jumbo flipit with the front diffuser (lighter than the LS).

I use the Lumiquest ProMax and Softbox III on my 580EX and really like both.

Those looking at the Demb Flip-it should take a look at the DiffuseiT. Almost identical product at half the cost. Yes, I have one.

+1 on the Lumiquest ProMax. If you must use an on-camera flash diffuser this is the one to get.
