Hi all,

I'm hoping to buy the Sigma 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro lens alongside the Canon Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX Flash over the next couple of weeks, and I'm wondering whether people believe that this is a good choice of equipment for macro work or not. I mean, first of all, are the lens and the flash compatible, i.e. will the flash lock on to the lens even if it's not Canon? Secondly, is Sigma's 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro lens a good lens? What is it about the 70mm and the 105mm lenses that makes them worth so much more?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Many thanks,

Jack McEntire

I posted almost the same question not to long ago. As for your choice of lens, i think the only difference really between them will be the focusing distance between you and your subjects. I don't know much about the Canon Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX Flash, it looks very serious. Myself I went with the Canon EF 100mm F2.8 Macro USM and Kenko Extension Tubes. I use my Canon Speedlite 430EX II on a side mount bracket. I just started playing with all this. I can tell you that I'm having big fun and so far it all works out real well. As much as I wanted to buy the Canon Macro Ring lite MR-14EX, I'm not so sure anymore.

50D, BG-E2N battery grip, Canon EF 24-105L, Canon EF 70-200L f/4, Canon EF 100-400L, Canon EF 100L Macro, Sigma 150-500 (Bigmos), Kenko Extension Tubes, Speedlite 430EX II.
