I know that with some birders it's more about the hunt...the hunt for rare birds or at least the uncommon ones. (Uncommon in that they aren't pigeons, mallards, or geese...) It probably takes a lot of patience as well, something I just don't have.

I'm more like bird->bird flies->shoot the bird...all within a few seconds...and with the least amount of inconvenience to me.

But dare I say, put me in a magic transport machine that can instantly transport me into some forest amongst rare birds and I'd be able to bird with the best of them...bw!

Yes, there is one such a place. The bronx zoo. I am a little bit of both. I like to shoot something rare but also can be spotted without a lot of troubles. For instance, a snowy owl was spotted in Jones Beach. From what I have gathered, you could only spot it once a month during the Winter if you are lucky. I wouldn't drive all the way out there and expecting nothing to capture in return.

A shot from the Bronx zoo, a Blue Breasted Kingfisher. Certainly not native in the US.

Nice shot. I didn't have a good shot of this guy because he was in a bad lighting angle.

Alright, those that missed the Grant's Tomb race, you have another shot shooting another bike race. Hopefully your 7D would be in working order. :) Here it is, this Sat at Floyd Bennett Field.

If any of you are coming, I can pick you up at the Ave U station on the Q line. I then drive us all to the air field. I can only fit 5 people including myself. Is a 3 miles long circuit.

I expect to be picked up in front of my house, then taken to a full course breakfast, then a break at Starbucks, maybe a massage, oh...and shooting men in speedos riding bicycles.

You listening MDJAK?

Sure, It's a dirty bird. Sure I forgot to use AI Servo mode instead of One Shot. But hey, it's a BIF.

You listening MDJAK?

Be sure it's Autonomous making his drink or he won't drink it.

As to a massage, he prefers them from beefy men.

And, last but not least, don't expect to EVER be invited inside his palatial estate when you pick him up curbside.

And DO expect to be kept waiting for him.

And DO expect him to leave your trunk/hatch lid open on your car so your gear can go flying out as you drive away.

Other than the above, he's an absolute pleasure to chauffeur, shoot with, and treat to dinner.
