I know that with some birders it's more about the hunt...the hunt for rare birds or at least the uncommon ones. (Uncommon in that they aren't pigeons, mallards, or geese...) It probably takes a lot of patience as well, something I just don't have.

I'm more like bird->bird flies->shoot the bird...all within a few seconds...and with the least amount of inconvenience to me.

But dare I say, put me in a magic transport machine that can instantly transport me into some forest amongst rare birds and I'd be able to bird with the best of them...

Yes, there is one such a place. The bronx zoo. I am a little bit of both. I like to shoot something rare but also can be spotted without a lot of troubles. For instance, a snowy owl was spotted in Jones Beach. From what I have gathered, you could only spot it once a month during the Winter if you are lucky. I wouldn't drive all the way out there and expecting nothing to capture in return.
