Alright, those that missed the Grant's Tomb race, you have another shot shooting another bike race. Hopefully your 7D would be in working order. :) Here it is, this Sat at Floyd Bennett Field.

If any of you are coming, I can pick you up at the Ave U station on the Q line. I then drive us all to the air field. I can only fit 5 people including myself. Is a 3 miles long circuit.

Five People? You got one of those bicycles built for 5? Pretty cool. But don't expect Nicky to pedal.

I'll be taking my daughter to the airport for her return to college that day so, count me OUT.

Vick, I'd go with you tomorrow but I have work :( If I can get a zip car this weekend I can make the bike event...I have to be back in Central Park by 2pm for a shoot at the boat house.

BTW, the Floyd Bennett Field is a weekly Sat event. In the past, it is usually on Tuesday evening. Is kind of good now it is in the morning. If you can't make it, you can also do the next one. The course is flat and very windy. At one part of the course, you will see riders flying down the straight away at 35 mph+. At the other part, you will see them struggling riding against the headwind going no faster than 20mph. On Sat I am doing another shoot at lower Manhattan around 6pm. Some night time shots. I am still deciding if I should shoot the race. If not enough interest, I will skip it.

I have a technical question about night time landscape shots. Do you use neutral density filter and at what stops you need? Is going to be a long exposure shot but I don't want the highlight to be blown out. Would stacking exposures an option?

I have one, and you should use one, and yes you can stack them :) I've seen some with 8 stops+ of ND filters on  I took shots on Saturday that are all but useless to me now because I left both my ND filter and CPL at home :(

I tried it (stacking exposures) but masking the highlights in a city shot is just too hard or impossible.

It can be done, just normally have to set up your shot before adding the filters.

Depends on what you're trying to achieve effect wise. Some folks stack filters, others just get a filter that is set to the desired stop range.

I want to try the "foggy or mirror smooth water" effect with a night time skyline shot.

Flash photography is quite fun. Single strobe would do with or without off camera shoe cord. I shot a lot of my niece in a very dark environment.

Here is a shot of my niece. Bounce flash off the ceiling and using a gold color flash diffuser. The flash power was 1/32 manual. I exposed the shot with -2 stops to the ambient light. Once you use the flash, you can underexpose the shot with a faster shutter speed and the shot would look really good. You don't need fast glass for low light shots at home or indoor if flash is permitted.

I am not big on filters. I know what they do but not something I want to get serious about.

Thanks Victor. Flash is something im really intrested in. Epseically off camera flash since its one of the reasons why i bought the 7D. However, its a whole new world for me to understand in terms of setting up the flash and understanding how it affects an image. Ive used my on board flash for those rare occasions when im close enough to provide some fill light to fight off harsh sun but thats about it.
