I added a +4 MA to my 100-400 and did this quick test.

400mm
tripod mounted
mirror lock-up
10 sec timer
ISO 1600
first shot/crop is wide-open at f5.6
second shot/crop is stopped down one to f8
RAWs straight from camera converted in LR2.6

Let me know if you think I've got it or not. Thanks all!

Looks nice, spot on!

Just one observation I'd like to share. I have a Sigma 150-500 OS, and I usually do my MFA choosing a subject farther than this. I usually do it in the yard and pick a telephone pole or the shed in the backyard, whatever that is a couple dozen yards away at least and pick a cool crisp calm day to do it (obviously not these days). Since I use the Sigma at that distance the most, I micro adjust my focus based on that distance. There are many lenses that focus with different accuracy at different focal lengths and subject distance.
I think I ever read it somewhere that for micro adjustment it's best to pick a target at least 50x the focal length used for the test.

Its pretty dark I'm guessing as well F/8 or F/5.6 and 10 second exposure at ISO 1600

Since you've got controlled conditions on a tripod, there's no reason at all to use 1600ISO for a test shot like this.

Do the same again with ISO 100 or 200 and you should see a marked improvement.

True. I did the MA with a distant subject. This was just a quick and dirty to see the results at a more normal distance.

Sorry, I don't follow what you're saying. The shots are 1/60 f5.6 and 1/30 f8...10 second timer was used to reduce vibrations.

True...this was just quick with two piddly little fixed-output lights. I was already at 1/30 and 1/60 for the shutter speeds. Even with a tripod I didn't want to get unrealistic with slow shutter speeds.

I think it looks good, however,I would warn against doing focus tests using shiny, reflective objects-it can mess with the AF. JMO

It's sharp. But looking at the first picture, may be it's a little bit front focussed. Not an issue though unless you want everything spot on... :-) +6 of MA perhaps?
