"Great shot. Do you guys ever feel like the tracks are too groomed? I like that there's some dry dirt. Make for a more dramatic photo" Great example here. The dry / sandy corner really makes this shot very cool.

Thx, i like it when there is a lot off dust.

Not always about the grooming. Different types of dirt get different results. plus time of day, weather conditions…..etc

I always find the advantage out west to be the separation distance between subject and back drop due to spread out tracks. 82's shots are a prime example, mountains in the distance and spread out track allow him to use f5.6 and still have amazing bokeh. While out east things are really stacked due to increased vegetation and lack of space. Using f5.6 many times doesn't allow for enough separation to get that super pop, unless you are using a long lens (which isn't always possible). I won't even get into the difference between dirt or available soil for that matter.

Very nice Mozes. Have you used the Nikon yet? If so, how does it compare to your old 1D2?

I like getting shots of the little guys. The bikes smell amazing, and bring back so many good memory's.

I know exactly what you mean. We were out on the sleds last week, and two 2 strokes came by, and man, what an awesome smell from the good old days.

Yes, for now sadly, mostly birds and some karting.
Cant wait to get to the cross track, but its closed.

Well, that 24mb sensor ask a lot off habituation.
Its almost to much
The camera is very small, to small to be honest, a big camera is a lot easier to work with.

I do like the D7100, the buffer is very small, 6 photo's (32mb p/s) and its full.
i have a fast card, so in less then 2 seconds the buffer is free. so not really a problem. 5 or 6 fps is for me ad the moment enough.
The AF is faster then i did expect, for my feeling, not slower then the 1DmkII

What is really missing, is the speed in the things you can change when you take the picture. even in burst.
For example exposure, with the 1D big thumb wheel, id did chane it from for example -2 to +1, when the bikes did go from sunny to shadow.
While keep shooting.

For now, i need a other lens.
The 80-200 2.8 is a very nice lens, but i dont like the push/pull.

Man today was my first day back on a bike in over 10 years.. IM SORE!
But what an awesome way to spend my day off. We rode 30 miles through the national forest. It was incredible but those trails were tough on a guy like me!

Shooting the Gather Magazine Ride Day at 212 Land and took the 135mm F2 to see how well it would do, such a kick ass lens. Like a mini 300mm. Cant wait to use it more.

I agree, the 135 was my go to for years. One of the best bangs for your buck.

Cheers... jim
