I had the 2.8 and found the f4 version to be sharper. For what I shoot most of the time, an f4 lens is just right for me.

Really? Hmm, very interesting. I'm debating on the 2.8 or the 4...

But my 2.8 was the MK1... The MK2 I hear beats it.

What glass do you guys usually shoot with for motocross?

Almost always the handy dandy 70-200 for me.

I've been reading the same. Sucks having to save up for it, though.

So true. That's why I'm glad I dont need IS. It saves a lot of cash on new lenses. Hmmmmm... $600 for a lens or $2400????

great thread! love it.
does anyone know what iso/ss/fstop they're using shooting supercross in a closed stadium using ambient light? i'm assuming iso 1600 is the max with a 50D and iso 3200 max with a 5D mkII. does that sound about right?
anyone have a example shots with their settings?

thanks a lot and rock and roll to motocross..my fav sport!

When I did supercross last year, I was using these settings:
Canon 50D
Canon 70-200 2.8L
ISO 1600
F/stop 2.8-4.0
SS varying
Samples.
