Very cool, but even with ETTL, I was hoping they'd be cheaper. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I just got an email from them too..

Come on $268 for that, no way! Eventually they will adjust the price.

Yeah! This is very expensive, if they want to sell more, they need to reduce the price..
And I don't see any mention of Canon 580EX or compatible flash like the Sigma EF 500 DG SUPER which also has ETTL function.

"4. Through the camera to adjust the parameter of the flashgun."

It would seem this means adjusting ratios/power, etc. on bodies prior to the 7D is not possible, which would render it (pretty much) useless on any of my XXD or 5D bodies.

$270 is a pretty hefty price to control one speedlite. Especially if one has a handle on using them manually.

I should have noted that this is not a full release, but a beta test version. However, the price includes exchanging for later versions for free, apart from return shipping (1 way only).

So they're making you pay to beta test a product.. Doesn't seem right to me.

The Chinese have their own marketing concepts! It's the same way they worked the Nikon release a month or two back, and reports on the latest Nikon version look much more promising.

Early information from Pixel indicated that the Tx/Rx pair concept was that they formed a radio version of the Off-Camera cord from Canon. The model that this implements is:
Camera - Link - Off-camera Master - multiple Off-camera Slaves.
The radio link overcomes cable hazard and cable length limits.

Most photographers seem to prefer this model:
Camera - On-camera Master - Link - Off-camera Slaves.
The radio link (eg RadioPopper, available in two of the world's 190 countries) overcomes line-of-sight requirements of Canon's IR communication, and distance, and outdoor performance degradation.

It seems that the Pixels implement the first model, and disappoints on the second model. Some-one needs to test and report using standard lighting terminology!

$268 for "beta test version"? Wow! Didn't they say the release candidates or final release were going to be around $70-80? Or do I remember things incorrectly? Because that's a huuuge gap... like 200 of it.

Right. It ccurred to me this morning that one could set one of the OCF's as master and fire multiple slaves. However, that means physically going to the master to change settings, which is really not that big a deal. But it also means your back to relying on IR once the signal leaves the mothership, and I think that is the main beef with the Canon system.

If we're still going to have to rely on the (weak link of) Canon's IR, then it would be cheaper to just buy a used 550, and use it as the master/trigger device. Plus you'd have another flash, just in case.
