Got a new 7d. I use the AF-ON button for focus. Today on two occasions when I pressed the AF-On to focus, nothing happened. The lens (Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L) was severely out-of-focus so it was very noticeable. When it happened I pressed it again, then again, then finally it decided to work. The same thing happened a few minutes later.

Now I can't seem to repeat the issue. I checked to make sure the lens was properly seated but could not tell that it needed any more of a turn. Any ideas? This would give me great anxiety if the bride and her dad are coming down the isle.

I have my 7D setup with both the AF-ON and * set to AF and the shutter button set to AE Lock. I found sometimes I hit the wrong button on the back by mistake, especially when wearing gloves outside.

+1 I hit the wrong button a lot, setting up the * solved my problem.

Solved this problem for me, now for my other problems.....

Check if you have set the Custom Function III-4 to 1. If you do, sometimes the camera will not spend time trying to focus on objects that are completely out of focus.
