Fact or myth - camera equip & aircon in hotels?

Trying to decide how to pack/protect my camera & lens whilst on holiday in Jamaica, the hotel is of course aircon'ed & I want to minimise fogging....

My thoughts were ziplock bags & wait for the temp to equalise, but I've read these actually cause more problems than they solve??????

So what do you do please?

I was thinking about wrapping the camera & lenses in these:

Then putting each one in one of these:

Condensation will occur where a cool dry object moves to a moister, warmer environment. Basically the coolnes of the object causes the water vapour that is suspended in the warm air to condense.

If your camera equipment is suficiently chilled by the hotel air con then you will experience condensation when moving out in to the open air. It shouldn't take too long for the equipment temperature to equalise and for the condensation to disappear.

Either allow yourself sufficient time that you don't need to start taking photographs as soon as you go out, or perhaps you could stand your kit on a balcony to get it up to temperature a little while before you need to head out.

Thanks, but what I'm actually asking is whether using the bags will help as they will condensate rather than the equip inside them? Or will the equipment still condensate as well as the ouside if the bag?

The bag helps avoid condensation because it maintains the humidity level of your room while the gear warms to the ambient temps outside.

So the fogging doesn't "hurt" the equipment, just don't use it/turn it on til the fogging has gone.....

I suppose to explain waiting 20 mins isn't a problem at all, I wondered if the camera/lenses were condensated on the outside, whether the electronics wuld also be so on the inside?

I haven't seen any noticeable effects and i've been taking my various cameras with me for the last 7 years doing the painful hotel thing...

When I am down at the beach with family I run into the same issue. I just sit the camera bag out on the balcony for about 10 minutes prior to heading out to shoot outdoor or poolside stuff.

Thanks all :)

I'll just buy some of those novaflex cloths to protect them & not worry about the ziplock bags
