Tested a ping pong ball diffuser out. It has a yellow cast to it that I fixed in post processing. It helps but it's no magic remedy.

Interesting - have you tried a backlit portrait shot like at the beginning of the thread? Arrange your figurine collection on or near a window and try Auto flash, ping pong flash, and then manual flash (cut power by various amounts and increase ambient). You definitely got softer shadows of the figurines projecting onto the background wall.

Try it out and let's see what's what!

I'll try that tomorrow if I remember.

Hey Dick. I think you're confusing slow sync with second curtain sync which is used for objects like moving cars.

In addition to my previous post maybe this will help. Consider every image to be made up of two aspects - the ambient light and the flash fill. I start by boosting my iso (keep your flash off). Use the live histogram to adjust the iso until the ambient light in the room plays a larger role in your frame. Now turn on your flash and adjust the flash exposure using the Flash Exposure Compensation. Since the ambient light is playing a larger role you can probably dial the flash down so that it provides a subtle fill rather than the blown out look you usually get. The S90 is an amazingly advanced camera once you learn it's secrets. Spend a bit of time in the lighting section. Light is light - regardless if you're using a point and shoot or expensive studio rig.
