Then go into your menu settings on your camera and change connection type from PC to Print/PTP. I have no idea why this works, but it does. Win 7 wouldn't recognize my camera or allow the EOS utility to work when set to PC. I changed it and bam!

Obviously this is most important if you like to transfer pics from the camera without using a card reader, but this is also helpful for those that use remote shooting.

Well it worked for my 5D but it's not working for my 1D mkIIn since it doesn't seem to have the same connection setting in the menu. I can't get the firewire connection to work.

Installed the EOS utility on Win 7 Pro and it has worked perfectly.

Windows 7 in 64-bit mode has some known firewire issues. I have had issues with connecting a Drobo via firewire. The recommendation has been to just use USB, but I also came across a 3rd party firewire drive that supposedly worked.

I can connect my mkIIn via usb but I still can't use the EOS utility, but it does let me transfer right from the camera. If you have any luck with that driver, please send me the link for it.

I may have to try this on the 5D for kicks... but I generally use a card reader.

And you never will with 64bit as Canon don't and won't make a 64bit driver for the MkII firewire connection. Sad but true.
