first time with food photography and the christmas feast was a great way to start :D

Big fan of the Christmas ham! Nice shots.

Also curious as to the lens - how did your background lights end up as pentagons? (I are teh n00b :p)

thanks guys.

I used the 50mm f1.8

the pentagonal bokeh from the nifty fifty has not been really popular with some users. But I found if to work in these pictures.

The pictures were stopped down to f2.8 to show the pentagonal bokeh. When used wide open they are circular.

Yeah, I agree this was one of the scenarios where the pentagonal bokeh works out pretty well. I figured you had the nifty-fifty for that shot, but I was confusing the effects of low f-stop to those of high f-stop on the lights. I was somehow thinking that since at an aperture of 22 the lights would be 10-point stars, at 1.8 they would be decagonal in shape. But again, I'm still learning :)
