This is a slight repost from the 7D image thread:

"Ive had the 7D for about a week and a half. Here are some shots through the holidays. I just want to say im extremely impressed with the iso performance. All of these shots were between 1600-3600 iso. I dont believe any of them fell below that range. All i can say is wow. As always CC is much appreciated!"

Now i would greatly appreciated if you went to my flickr to check them out. Im trying to follow the rules so you wont find the bigger sizes in this thread. Let me know what you think. For some reason i think some of the images are soft and you can only tell if you see them at a larger size. I dont print beyond 8*11 so pixel peeping at 100% is not what i do. Rather in looking at the whole image some appear a bit soft to me. Would like to hear what you guys have to say. Again these where shot in indoors in low light.

Know one will make an assessment without the specs of each photo.

I like the 1st and 4th shots! Though, the 4th shot seems to be slightly tilted to the left. Hopefully, I'll be getting a 7D soon too.

From the looks of it, these were shot at rather high ISO's, so softness kind of comes with the territory. However, they do look in focus for the most part at the sizes you posted them at. I find my 7D I got a few days ago to be extremely sharp, and my 17-85 now is an amazing lens. Before I had some softness and was unhappy with it until I mounted it on the 7D. I am LOVING this lens now. My 100% crops look equal, if not better then the XSI/T1i I had previously, which is great considering how much larger the images are, and comparing 100% crops between the camera's isn't "fair".

I do notice the 7D is more sensitive at lower ISO's for noise... Underexposure will make ISO 800 or 1600 very grainy, but if properly exposed, will look amazing. And ISO 3200 and 6400 are great (at correct exposure), and 12,800 is superior to my T1i I had for sure. Retains more detail, cleans up nicer, I love it.

Thanks a lot for your response. Its what i had been thinking in my head. The majority of those shots, especially the last two were shot at or in between iso 1600-3200. Mind you i would have never shot that high of an iso on my xsi so its a testament to the capabilities of the cam. So some softness could be had.

I know. I thought about it but if i did that the first post would have looked like an essay. Maybe i can go back and just put in the basics like F-stop, iso, shutter speed.

Thanks a lot for the comments! The 4th if a bit tilted i can go back and fix it in LR.

Omar,
I was checking out your flickr and I think that shutter speed may be the cause of some of the soft shots. There were a few where you were too slow for your focal length, and a few others where you were within the focal length rule of thumb but just barely, and with a lens that heavy might be harder to keep steady.

Thanks a lot Dcnats. Your right on your assessment. I dropped the shutter speed below focal lengths due to the tough shooting environment. The light was horrible and i couldn't shoot at higher speeds. That could very well explain it coupled with the high iso shots. Thanks a lot for taking the time to go over to my flickr!

Thanks for the encouragement! I came from an xsi and its a whole lot more camera. I love the xsi and in the future will buy it again as a back up. I actually did try out the fps rate at a nets game. I was high in the upper levels using my 24-70. I was able to get some good whole sequence shots of carlos boozer dunking the basketball and lee from the nets shooting a three pointer. I was amazed at how well they came out considering how far away i was from the action. I can only imagine what i could do if i was sitting that much closer.

Great shots! Christmas trees make for some creative shots this time of year!

The 7D will do quite well at higher ISOs even, it does require some post processing tools like noiseware and a good image processor.

Even at that ISO, there are a ton of details/sharpness that can be preserved. I have several examples of that in my smugmug gallery.
