what can you say about the lens? is it sharp enough? as i am quite new to this hobby, these 2 pictures are by far some of the best i have shot IMO. these pictures are direct from camera no editing.

love to hear your comments/critiques... btw, this is my gf - how old do you think she is?

I think the 2nd one would be better without the water on the lens, and if it was straight.

Yes the second is definately the better of the two. I think theres just too much dead space on the top of the first. The lens looks like it take some nice pittures.

As far as your girlfriend... Id guess 21

Have to agree that the trick here is to decide if the focus is on your girlfriend, or if she is there to serve as a counterpoint or a draw into the environment that you're shooting. I think the first picture could well be "fixed" by cropping down to emphasize her. The second photo I think you were trying to get a feel for the "nautical", but the end result is a little too busy. Maybe next time try just a few drops and add some bokeh or such if you want more sparkles.

Either way, the lens is sharp, and the girlfriend seems like a good model :D

You've got way to much dead space at the top of both photos. The first photo would be good after a generous cropping. The focus is crisp and the color is deliciously warm. I'm not feeling the second shot at all.

thanks for all the comments.. as for me i like the 1st photo more than the 2nd but i guess the shot was a bit loose, i could crop it at the top. so far i have been enjoying this lens outdoors but struggling indoors (as to be expected)...

btw, my gf is 26 already :)

Number 1 would be better in a horizontal crop. What exactly do you think all that dead space brings to #1?

The lens looks like it did a great job. Your girlfriend looks crisp and clear in the first one, and it is a little harder to tell in the second one because of the water inbetween her and the lens. But overall looks good.

Is it just me, or does the skin on her cheek, right under sunglasses in #1 look nearly blown ? Not quite blown yet, but way too warm & shin y. Also her lips. Maybe just my perception.

I actually like the #1 better, I would crop it tight, removing the blah space on top, work on her skin / lips, and do some local sharpening. #2 is more of a photo of a shower post with nice background.
