OK, we were discussing in one of the threads how to start working on critiquing our photography and our editing thereof. So I decided I'd like to get the ball rolling with one of the photos I took this weekend. I don't know anywhere that you can post a CR2 and make it visible to folks who are browsing/viewing, so here's a link to a non-edited PNG:

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 403 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

The request is that you edit it however you see fit, post the resulting image somewhere, point us to it, and most importantly TELL US WHAT YOU DID!

Feel free, as part of this to say what I could have done better with the original image. FWIW this was taken with an XSi using the Canon 55-250 IS lens.

I'm looking forward to seeing what y'all come up with!

You will probably get better response in the "Critique Corner" forum.....this is strictly gear talk.

OK, I'll post over there. In that case, could a friendly mod either lock or delete this thread (hate to be responsible for dupes!)?

You must turn on Image Editing OK in your user profile to have others edit your pictures.

Is that necessary if he explicitly requests the editing in the post?

Actually, no, it is not necessary. But it's a moot point now.

This was in the Forum rules, you gave permission on the single image so it was ok.

If you do not have written permission to edit that photo, or the member has not set the Image Editing Okay flag (in User CP), you may not edit that photo and post the edited photo back. This applies to ALL FORUMS.

Hey Ewan, I agree with the person above who said you should really repost this in Critique Corner. Much more appropriate audience for your question.

Also, best bet would be to convert it to a jpg, 1000 pixels (or less) along it's longest side, and then use the forum's "Attachment" feature to post the shot in your thread.

That way, I would not have to bother with a download, or anything else, I could just drag it into PS and be on my way.

Rad

This my attempt. First I try to correct it using Photoshop but then I realize that there are quiet some details available in the image that can be corrected using Lightroom 2.6. So From photoshop I convert the PNG to JPG without compression to preserve the detail. Open and import to lightroom. After tweeking this is the result.

you can download the lightroom tweek here colorfix.lrtemplate (external link)

To be brutally honest my first thought was "that butterfly ruined a perfect back ground shot" Now I come from a mostly video background so take that for what it is worth. this is the first thing i would do.

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

Also FOr how would i have shot it different. I would make sure the focus is on the object in the midlle that seems to be the focal point of the foto. it look sto me that the focus is shallow to the left. also the dead even split and straight down on the subject dont give much depth. Just MHO

First step........ Take the lens cap off.
