Title says it all. How much does it cost to repair the motor on this lens?

The strange thing is it’s like the motor is really weak. I have to hit the button like 15 times before it finally focuses. With each press the auto focus moves just a bit.

I would go out and buy a new lens, but I lost my job like 10 months ago and can't afford it

Are you sure that it's the motor that is weak?

My 28-135 seems to have a bit of a problem with the lubrication. The internal mechanics doesn't move as easily as it should. I got this problem after using the lens in very cold weather. Since I have other lenses, I have never bothered to take a closer look at the 28-135. All I know is that sometimes it seems to work ok, but sometimes it doesn't seem to have the strength to focus.

Yeah same thing here. Left the camera in my car over night when it got cold. Next day it didn't work. How do you lube them? Or does it need to be taken to a Canon store for that.

Send it in and see what they say as an estimate. If you don't like the price decline it. No one can say until it gets to Canon. Good luck with your lens, i'd be disappointed.

I thought this might have happened to someone on here and they would have known the price. I guess it's not a common flaw.

Do other lenses behave the same way on your camera body? Does the lens behave the same way on multiple bodies? Have you tried cleaning the lens and body electrical contacts?

Canon repair is resonible, surprisingly so, many times. They may not even charge you if it's deemed a manufacturing flaw.
If your cam or other lens need calibration, it might be a good time to do so.

The cause as stated by PMW2 may not be what you suspect and an easy fix.
Best luck.
