I have been shooting on automatic point and shoot with Canon Rebel EOS 350 7 years ago, then upgraded to xsi two years ago, Now that I have a 5D MkII I want to start learning to improve my shots. Here are sample shots on the 5D please reply with C&C to guide me. Thanks

That shot looks TOO balanced. White balance will help make what is supposed to be neutral actually neutral. Ok good. Thats the formulaic part.

There is still what you want out of the shot and the mood and feeling it gives to the viewer. Usually for Christmas tree shots inside the home and such, you WANT a little bit of warmth to the light.

I am Henry. NOT Hank. And certainly not a length of rope tied in a knot. ;)
My family calls me Hen, but you can call me Chicken. See you out there!

I agree with AlphaChicken - the processed one looks to cool. A bit of warmth supports the mood.

Especially in the sond shot the "horizon" is completely lost.... Try to straighten the shot with the clock as a vertical reference. I know: wide angle shots are difficult in that respect. May be a bit of stretching in Photoshop will help. You may loose part of the shot but that is better than this earthquake.

Sharp images, pleasing colors, well lit. Hmm, I prefer the processed #1. The original looks too much like the ones I shoot :). I like my rooms on the cool side. I also like them to have some free floor space, so I'm not comfortable in room #2. In that, my eye jumps all'round, not knowing where to rest. Certainly not on the desk lamp. Could is be selected and turned down a notch? Sorry, I'm picky - green with envy, with my XSi and old 420 flash.
