I can't find the manual and I was wondering what the outmost ring which you can turn approx. 180 degrees is all about. The other, the zoomgrip, is obvious. Thank you for your answers. Certainly a simple question but... I believe the ring in question is called the focus ring.

As implied by the name, the focus ring is used to manually focus the lens.
