Shot while looking for river birds over the holiday. Lighting sucked and distance was a bit "out" there for the 100-400, but a fair amount of detail remained.

Linked to huge version just in case:

Yes; I did deserve that answer; seriously, though...I'm curious as to what sort of meal the osprey was having :)

That is a Black Rockfish and they are very good to eat.

Pac NW is where both these critters live so chances are you won't see a great capture like this on a sunny day.Black Rockfish don't spend much,if any, time on the surface so this fish(no head)may have been fed to the Osprey or the bird just picked the head off for a lighter load.I see Eagles with this type of fish all the time when they have been fed to them but an Osprey is awesome.

Hey, nice shot...

Hope you don't mind - had a quick tweak in photoshop to see what could be done to help the lighting conditions

Yeah, which is where I would NORMALLY shoot these guys...but this was down in Fairfield, CA. I think the weather followed us down there

Zee: Nice attempt at bringing something out in the sky, but there just isn't much to work with here. It's so heavily cropped and the sky really was FLAT grey...you got some decent blue in there, but it's just noisy due to the shot itself. <shrug>

I guess you had best start saving for a 600mm f4 L ;)

Yeah. I think my other half would kill me if she has to pack any more 'standard' gear in her pack just so *I* can haul a bazooka around :p
