Sorry, had to rant.

I've got my 24-105L up on eBay as a BIN with best offer. I've had a lot of interest but in the space of a few hours have had two people place offers and then an hour later retract them for 'entering the wrong amount'.

I've never had this before so what's going on??? Puzzled.

Ahh, that's off my chest then. :)

eBay has gone down the tubes over the years, that's what's going on.

I sell local on Craigslist. I've sold anything camera related in person with cash in less than 1 day.

Of course I do live in Orange County and there a millions of possible local buyers.

Ebay used to to a be true auctioning site. Now its nothing more than a big sale website. With all the stores selling on ebay, its far from an auction site anymore. It use to be real hardcore. If you accidentally bid on a car as a joke and won, you had to pay.

Now so many stupid people have done that, and complained that now everyone can back down from an auction. I will use Ebay 1% of the time now

I'll buy on ebay, and have gotten some great deals. But I haven't sold anything there for quite a while. It's just too risky to sell now.

Noe I'm over the 100 mark they don't hold on to the money until the buyer has left feedback but that's it for me, looking for an alternative. Here in the UK there's not that much choice - that I'm aware of???

Thanks, all, for this timely thread. I was planning to sell two bodies, lenses, and some old ham equipment on ebay. I've never sold there before and had no idea. I assumed it was the best spot to sell. I'll reconsider and research a little now.

I've had GREAT luck selling locally through kijiji (same thing as craigslist). The last think i sold on ebay was 17-85 (over 2yrs ago). Someone in Netherlands bought it (I wasn't strict enough about shipping to Can/US only) but the person was willing to pay the extra shipping. Shipping is stressful enough as it is, and it took a month for the lens to get overseas so I will never do that again!
