not a big fan of tilted shots, you're giving your viewers neck pain.

on #4, are there any available lights around? the photos looks flat to me. if there
was a bit of ambient on there it woulda been a better shot IMO. Mixing ambient and
flash makes it more dramatic and interesting.

yea, i didn't like that cake shot either. seems like you tilted it simply to get a different look. And for the ceremony, get in close with a faster lens so you can get some close ups.

I think you did good for your first wedding, and as a second shooter. Some of the images need more fill light IMHO...and I think I would like the cake shot if it wasn't tilted, or either wasn't tilted as much.

It is definitely a big learning process...but you can learn a lot being a second shooter...

Man, I would love to shoot a wedding at the DMA! That would be sooo cool.

1 - Not bad, but seems a little underexposed (need some fill there, perhaps) and I find the fact the tip of the knife being cut off to be a bit distracting. It leads us out of the frame.

2 - I like the ambient light you captured but the shot really lacks a story. I would have liked a full room shot like this with the glasswork and windows as the central focus of the shot.

3 - As the others said.. a little too much tilt here. Some tilt is okay but I think this is a little much. Also, I think it would have been improve if you moved slightly more to the front of the cake.

4 - Looks pretty flashy. Did they have zero ambient lighting outside except for the candles behind them? That's pretty hard to shoot.

5 - Pretty interesting shot but I think it needs some more contrast and I am not a fan of the square crop.

6 - It seems a little on the cool side, but not bad.

7 - Not bad.. quite the character! But I think that you need to balance your ambient and your flash a bit more.. It's a little harsh.

Not bad for a first time.

I am super cool n' stuff.

Thanks for the comments! There as absolutely no ambient light, and the photographer I was shooting with (his gig) didn't want me getting any closer during the ceremony. I have to agree with the cake tilt shot. I have another version that isn't tilted so bad, so I'll definitely keep that in mind. This was also my first time out using a flash, and I didn't have a diffuser. I learned a lot from the experience!

Seems to me that you have a great attitude.
