My 300D has given me excellent service over the last 5 years, and this morning it suddenly stopped recording images. I tried changing the battery and the CF card, to no avail. I guess I would be right to assume that it is time to lay it to rest?

I think you will enjoy some of the features and improvements in IQ even if you buy a used xti or 30d.

Dec 30, 2009 08:32 | #6 Tom, there are no repair shops for any kind of camera in the Bahamas unfortunately. I'll try bigrob's suggestion, but I will admit that I have put the Rebel XS on my B&H wish list. I have a 350D, so at least I can get my daily shutter fix until I can solve the problem! Thanks for your replies. Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop. -Ansel Adams

I'm also considering the T1i, but don't think I want to spend the extra to have video recording, since I most likely would hardly ever use it. I used the 300D almost as much as my 350D, really liked that camera even though it is a slow clunky old thing. Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop. -Ansel Adams

Although I dont remember the exact details when the xs came out it was essentially a dumbed down version of the xti with a few features missing. Totally designed to be a market entry camera, treat yourself to something nicer for little extra out of pocket.

I bought the XSi because my digital "passed away" this past summer and my wallet was tight, it's been a great little camera. All my co-workers and my boss's lenses all work with it too (they have the 50D and 40Ds). Great camera for small price Ados Photography

Thanks gonzo, looking at it on B&H's site there is very little difference in cost so I will definitely consider that. With free shipping within the US I can have it sent to a freight forwarder in Florida and they will ship it from there for only $35. Cameras are duty free here, so it looks like that would be well worth the $40 difference in cost at B&H. Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop. -Ansel Adams
