Hi guys, can you give me a good advice since im quite undecided.Im planning to purchase a 1D mark II for $800 box.quite cheap, but the downside is,aside from some brassing and scratches on the body(which i dont much care),the shutter actuation is about 150,000 according to cancount.just want to ask if the unit is worth buying( i know 1D series is a workhorse)?does anybody knows if it reached its 200k(correct me if im wrong) shutter life,it will suddenly breakdown?

really need advice on this

thank you very much.

I just picked up a mint condition Mark II with 69,000 actuations for $875. 150,000 is quite high. I doubt it would suddenly break down but you'd be better off finding one with a lower shutter count.

They rarely die suddenly. Usually you get shutter bounce before it fails. Get some test shots of a bright single coloured background if you can and make sure there's no bright or dark edges to the frame.

The shutter count is a lottery anyway, they can fail at two actuations or go on to do millions. A shutter replacement isn't hugely expensive anyway so if you want it, go for it and don't worry about the shutter.

Thanks for your humble advice Sam and Hank,i'll be doing a test on the unit tomorrow.finding a low shutter count 1D2 here in our place mean higher price.that's why i'm quite interested with the unit and at the same time a bit undecided.
here's the pics of the unit

An abused child. WOW. :(

My MKII blew its shutter at about 25K. Out of warranty. Canon replaced it for free. Been perfect ever since. Super camera. I shoot it with my MKIII.

That was a working camera... a journalist's or sports photographer's maybe?

I'm sure the camera will be fine but you should add the shutter replacement cost on to it because at that level you can expect it to go. It could be 50,000 exposures or it could be 150,000 before it goes, but if you're OK with that, go for it. If you stalk the FM forums you can probably get a cleaner and less used one for the same money, though. I'd pay $750 or $700 for that one.
