Well iv been doing a few vids this week on birds (perched ) i use AF in normal camera mode then switch to Video mode it works great.

Rob. or if you activate it, you can hit AF-ON button, while in video mode, it will trip the shutter, AF, and then go back to liveview so you can continue to frame your shot. -Grant

Yeah, just make sure "quick LV AF mode" is enabled as upposed to face detect or contrast detect. This will allow the camera to flip down the mirror, focus, and then flip back up the mirror to enable live view. flickr
