While I'm not real happy with these shots, given the lighting and my lack of knowledge, I think they are ok but a little soft. I took these from the car.

I'd say that both are Christmas card worthy for next year. Very nicely done.

The composition is good but both images look shakey and there is significant blow out from the snow in the first image. If you told us the details of the shot we might be able to give you some recomendantions. . . .

I would guess one or two of two things... and it happens to me all the time...

1) shakey long lens syndrom
and or
2)mis focus...

keep shooting and eventually you get all the stars to align and you feel GREAT!!!

Sorry for the late response. I did not turn email notification on.

The first shot was taken with my 7d and 70-200 sigma. from a car window in low light. I should have probably bumped the iso up and shutter speed. ISO100 200mm f/2.8 1/50sec.

The second shot was probably the same but with my sigma 100-300 f/4. ISO800 300mm f/5.6 1/60sec.

Now that I actually reviewed both images, I can see the shutter speed was just too slow, even with propping the camera on an open car window.

Do you do any post processing? I think both of those shots could be made better but they are good!

if the car is running you will get quite a bit of vibration as well

you can use iso 1600 easily and get decent size prints with the 7D
