^^^Gorgeous moon shot!!^^^

thanks.. I'm planning a new one, but it means pulling apart my main astro camera rig.

What I didn't do with the shot was stack multiple images to reduce noise, nor did I use a coma corrector, which I now have.. so there's two lots more sharpening I could do. My guess is I'll be able to blow up to A3 but still pin sharp once I've done. The image I posted is pin sharp at A4.

What I can't do is take a full moon.. not without doing a mosaic.. it won't all fit on the sensor.

Derek

Hello everyone,
I believe you may classify me as a lurker, I have been in photography as a hobby for over 30 years. I saw this thread and will contribute this image. I am not an astronomer or photographer of the celestial.
This was taken with a Canon EOS 50D + EF600 f4 IS + Canon 1.4TC II mounted on Wimberley Gimbal Head II, Gitzo G1320 tripod.

No, this is one single image, aircraft crossing the moon and shot taken. Does not happen often. Look carefully at the contrails just behind the engines. This is not "fake". PS was used to do the editing/PP.

Richard, I agree with Paul... totally fantastic images! You must live very near a large airport (international airport perhaps) to get those aircraft in the path of the moon!

That web-site is on my "top sites" for use.It seems like devices like the SB-1 radar box are now obsolete with sites like this. I live in Florida and most commercial traffic shows up. The military aircraft do not.

Wow! must have taken a lot of planning, I've seen images a bit like this before, but the aircraft/spacecraft have always been in silhouette. Presumably it must have been taken near dawn/dusk as well as properly aligned/timed etc.

thanks for posting.
