Wow , for $350.00 more I would have found a way to buy with mount . That Go-To mount alone is $719.00 . Would be worth it to get the combo . However Celestron makes a tripod heavyduty made especially for smaller scopes for $99.00 . Something to consider if your not going with a Go-To mount of some kind . You'll have to have one if your planning on DSO images .

That $719 mount is not the same one you get for $799, it is almost $1100 with higher end mount.

This is what you get for $799.

I read it was not very good for astrophotography, you would need to add an Equatorial wedge and I also read that it does not track as well as the more expensive mounts.

The lowest price at Amazon for my scope is now $599, the seller I bought from must have run out.
This is the on I got. http://www.amazon.com …ywords=celestron+6%22+sct (external link)

This is the other option I considered. http://www.amazon.com …orion+6%22+ritchey-+scope (external link)

The Orion lacked a finder scope and the eyepiece.

Check this out , Astronomics is where I bought all my astro equipment starting with my Celestron C8 SCT back in 97' . The link I'm providing is similar to the one at Orion but the Astro-Tech brands are way better than Orions scopes .

That is a great deal, I bought the focal reducer corrector lens for my scope at a cost of $113, I might not have needed it for the Ritchey-Chrétien scope.
I see there is a wait list, I looked at telescopes quite a few years back and the prices were much higher than they are now, at these prices almost anyone can afford them.

Yeah I didn't catch that at Celestron , but you could have gotten this setup for that price :

That mount is much approved over the older version of that mount . First versions way back made a lot of noise and yes some had problems but now the new ones are improved . I'd take one in a heart beat if I could afford it :( .

l looked at that one but decided I wanted more Focal length, the scope I got is 1500mm vs. that one at 750mm, also the Schmidt Cassegrain design is supposed to hold alignment really well so that is one less thing to worry about. I also have camera lenses out to 600mm so I decided that when I do get a good mount that I will use my camera with Camera lenses for the shorter focal lengths.

That is a really good deal though, the scope is almost free.

Also it is an F/5 as where your 6" and my 8" are f/10 , but using the FR/6.3 is a big big help !! I have a FR/6.3 for my 8" also .

There was one other scope I briefly considered, an Orion Newtonian 8" f3.9 Astrograph.
http://www.amazon.com …ords=8%22+f3.9+astrograph (external link)

I decided with my bad back I didn't want to be lifting a 34 pound telescope, it is also 3 feet long.

That looks like a good astroimaging scope . I wonder if any others have it and how they like it ?

Here's one I think I would definitely consider as a second scope (once I get mine tamed).

10" f/3.9 Newtonian

It might be OK but personally I'm not fond of Orion's scopes. They produce ok images at times but I've seen better with competition manufactors.

I finally found the photos I took of the "Supermoon" eclipse from September 27 of last year.
Taken with my Nikon D5200, with the kit 55-200mm lens at 200mm, on a standard tripod.
