Gear List

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Last night's 34.8 percent..... as you can see, I almost did not catch it! Here, just about to drop below my neighbors roof, it was just barely dark enough to shoot with the gear I had set up with.

Shooting the moon is fun... and with any equipment there is always learning and improvement on techniques. As long as you are using a tripod, you could improve things a lot by changing your settings with the gear you are using. Try 100ISO, 1/50s, F11. That should be close to right, and just open up your aperture if you need to and if you can. If not, then you should be able to go down to 1/40s safely. If still not bright enough, then LASTLY gradually move your ISO up. But, the settings I gave you should be close. :) It will give you a nicer, cleaner image with a lot less noise.

Cheers

Mike

Here is my effort from last night, with good seeing again. Was hoping to get a few days in a row, but the seeing is totally sucky tonight.

Thanks a million Mike - I will give those settings a try the next time I get a clear view of the moon - hopefully tonight. I took my previous shot on a tripod but just guessed the settings. I will post here my results. Many thanks
Paul

Using Mike's advice (thank you kindly sir) had a go today at the waxing gibbous, lens 200-600 with 1.4X TC. I shortlisted 2 images would like to hear which is better, and personally I feel the 2nd image is better.
