I don't believe in coincidences, especially things related to celestial objects. Just like Jupiter being there has great influence on our lives here on earth, and a host of other fun facts. :)

Good info, thank you!

I don't either. . There's nothing coincidental about any of the things that exist in our universe. . Nice to know I'm not the only one here who thinks that way.

Well that now makes 3 of us. Where I’m from this is a very deep belief, the time of birth and planetary positions relating to that determine our lives.

Well that is a totally different angle than what I believe, but I do understand what you are saying.

We need a moon thread that is just using digital cameras instead of telescopes, I really enjoy seeing the closeups, but then I keep wishing I had money to buy telescopic equipment instead of investing in my camera gear. :( :D

I have seen some very impressive hand tracked lunar and planetary photos taken with very affordable Dobsonian telescopes.

Taken last evening, shortly after sunset, underexposed more than usual for me. Handheld, two images, stacked. First time I have tried that.

Heya,

Today was a First Quarter phase, depending how close you are you can capture the Lunar V & X features (crater rims) illuminated at the terminator at different points through the phase. I had a sucker hole between clouds and was able to get it at 53% illumination. Visually it was fun to see as the "X" feature was floating in darkness at this illumination. The following disc is a high resolution mosaic, please feel free to see the full scale version on my Flickr or Astrobin. The resolution is 426 meters per pixel represented. Seeing was average, so I captured the data in 742nm IR wavelength.

Lunar V feature:

With a 1st Quarter Moon outside, I had to put the EOS R and my new (today) RF 600mm F11 lens on a tripod and grab my 1st Moon shot with the new lens.

It did not disappoint.:-)

I have also attached a "colour saturated" version, where the blue and red hues indicate Titanium and Iron rich regions of the Moon.

Cheers

Dennis

NOTE: although lens data shows "600mm F4" from POTN - this is incorrect. Actual lens is "Canon RF 600mm F11"
