With a 1st Quarter Moon outside, I had to put the EOS R and my new (today) RF 600mm F11 lens on a tripod and grab my 1st Moon shot with the new lens.

It did not disappoint.:-)

I have also attached a "colour saturated" version, where the blue and red hues indicate Titanium and Iron rich regions of the Moon.

Cheers

Dennis

NOTE: although lens data shows "600mm F4" from POTN - this is incorrect. Actual lens is "Canon RF 600mm F11"

CA seems pretty well managed too!

It's a fixed aperture of 54mm, producing F11. It's pretty much apochromatic just because of that, even if it were just achromatic doublet quality flint & crown and not even ED glass. That's a Sidgwick standard of greater than 3 and a Conrady standard greater than 5 (this lens is 5.5 in terms of its ratio). So it's literally apochromatic just because of its focal ratio relative to its actual fixed aperture.

This is why these lenses are both fixed at a specific focal-ratio, allowing them to use less exotic glass. Great little refractors!

Very best,

Very best,

Martin, I think you are being very unkind to Canon; this is a 54.45mm diameter objective lens, not a diminutive 54mm. ;-)a:lol:

Slightly larger than most 50mm finder scopes. :p

Cheers

Dennis

Last night's Moon from Brisbane with a 210mm dia F11.6 telescope at a FL of 2080mm F9.9.

A 3 pane composite for the whole Moon and a crop of one of the regions.:-)

Hi Neal

Excellent image, lovely detail in there.

Hope you don't mind, but I ran it through Nik Detail Extractor, Topaz AI DeNoise and Auto Colour/Auto Tone in PS CC.

Cheers

Neal,

Your shot here is also AMAZING!

I don't quite follow how you take a 100-400mm lens and end up with 840mm!?!?!
That is more than a 2X Teleconverter.

I do like what Dennis did to your image!!

I wish I hadn't sold my Kenko 1.4x, I should have kept it, as the Canon ones don't stack. In any case, we won't be able to get any moon shots until about Sunday in these here parts, so here a quick shot last night.

Charles the lens I’m using is 200-600 which is not in potn gear list. I picked the closest in the gear list otherwise I cannot add to my gallery.

This is no comparison to the recent imags posted here but here's a shot I took on Aug. 1st.

This was taken with my FE 200-600 lens + 2x extender. I must have bumped the zoom ring as the exif shows 1176mm instead of 1200mm.

Amazing image Gene, detail level is good. On your 7RIV, have you tried that lens without a TC on the moon? At the resolution level of your camera you might be able to get very nice detailed close crops, I would have thought. -?
