There was only 4 or 5 feet from the baseline to the stage. Add a referee and it gets crowded in a hurry.

I did shoot a few from up on the stage but wasn't very happy with the looks.

Trying out a remote camera was an experiment for me. Hey, you don't know until you try. I don't care if any of the images sell or not, I'm happy to see the results. They give me something to work on in the future.

Nice lighting and captures, as usual :) Could you have gotten the same results behind the basket shooting laying down on your stomach? I'd have trouble leaving my 40D unprotected, even with its insurance. That being said, it looks like the remote experiment was a success. I'm thinking of options to encase your 40D.

Why not try mounting the remote behind the backboard? Most schools now have the clear acrylic backboards. I have always thought that was a great shot. Would they even let you mess with it there? Of course that would be a longer set up, but the results would be amazing and probably more marketable. Especially during the boys games, not so much for the girls, but still fun!

Michael those were great shots very well exposed, the skin tones were great. Shooting youth of amateur basketball games is so difficult because of the white balance issues involved. I have found that if your use a strong flash the players might be bright enough and well lighted, the remainder of the gym looks like a dark pit. Now you need to patent the positions and settings.

A great photo only starts with the shutter release,

Chas,
My knees are too bad to be standing on a ladder. I had a few bad experiences here at the house. That floor can be pretty hard! :-(

Here is one of the wide angle shots cropped. It looks a lot better than the wide view.
