Happy New Year!

I'm looking for some advice. I am going to purchase a used 40d as an upgrade from my XTi . Which one would you buy?

Camera 1 - Used by a pro but LOTS of use. Doesn't know actuation count but it's a lot. Sent back to Canon twice for cleaning and tune ups. Comes with all cables, documentation, box, etc. Minor scuffs here and there but nothing serious of course. Screen protector.

Camera 2 - 4000 clicks. Excellent condition as described by the owner. Comes with battery charger, battery, neck strap, etc. Does not come with the box, receipt, cables. I don't need any of the cables. Brief second owner of the camera.

Both are around the same price. The history of Camera 1 is much clearer but it has been used more. Which would you go for and why?

What's the best way to test a camera once I'm there looking at it?

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

I would get #2.
40D with 4000 shots, probably used on Auto mode most of the time IMO.

I would go with camera #2. The first one has just so much more mileage on it and anything else that fails or needs repair is on your tab. Also he could find out exactly what the shutter actuations are, why is he hiding that? I would stay away from #1.

I bought a 40D from a shop so I had a 90 day warranty but no idea of the history, it had about 5000 clicks on it. It was pretty much like buying a new camera, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The fact that somebody is a pro often means they do LESS to take care of their camera.

The 40D is one heck of a camera, I'm glad I have my 5D, but I certainly miss the 40D. I may try to pick one up as a second body before long.

I guess I am too late now .........

EOSInfo can very quickly tell you what the shutter count is. http://astrojargon.net …AutoDetectCookieSupport=1 (external link)

I would go with Camera 1 provided the shutter count is 50,000 or less.

I would rather have a one owner camera with lots of careful use, and a tune-up/calibration, rather than a camera that has had little use, maybe been dropped a couple of times (by TWO different owners), and has never been cleaned or calibrated. (but that's just me) :)
