Happy new year everyone!

Now that the year is over I was wanting to see everyone's favorite sports pic they captured in 2009! I know it's hard to pick out just one but give it a shot.;) Tell us a little about it and why it's your favorite.

This was mine from our local "Mud Bowl" this year. We got our butts kicked and this picture captured the moment and feeling quite well I thought.

Nothing overtly special about this image - just a half-a**ed snapshot of my son. But it came as he hit the ice for the last time at the end of last season. He had a great year: it was his first year playing on a competitive (rep) team after several years of trying, he won his first tournament, he really liked and respected his coach, and he loved his teammates. I told him to take a minute to soak it all in, to really savour the moment because it would be the last time he would be together with that particular group of kids. That's what he was doing when I grabbed the shot. Pensive, sad.

Sometimes it's not the image that's special but the moment in which it was created.

Like Dan, my favorite is probably that because of the story with the photo as much as anything.

This was a shoot with a group of seniors from a local high school for an ad in a state basketball magazine. The coaching staff is hyping #30 as a potential all state player so the theme of the shoot was to highlight her along with the other seniors.

I have done a lot of work with these girls over the past several years so have got to know them pretty well. After finishing up our official shots, they wanted to take one to give the coach to give him some good natured ribbing for his obvious bias toward the one girl for the ad. They have no real negative feelings about her getting the attention. She has always been their leader and they are all very close friends.

This is what we came up with. I smile every time I look at it.

This was mine, from the moment it disappeared from view as I clicked the shutter. It's full frame at 400mm, with both eyes open. The receiver made the catch.

I like this one the best of this year because most of my stuff is close action shots of individuals for print sales. This shot included the surroundings and red cast of the sun as it disappeared with the play in the foreground.

I’m looking at the mathematical equation in this photo. If you would have moved 20 to were 10 is and 10 were 20 is – then you would have the equation: 50 – 20 = 30 and (10 + 24) - 4g = 30. (4g are the four girls). Simple math, eh? Nice photo too!

Though It's kind of hard to pick one that is my own favorite but I get more comments about these two than anything else I've posted on my website in the last year.

The Dominik Hasek wanna-be from Slovakia dropping the stick and diving across the crease.

This guy picked up the slack and dominated a few games after the team's superstar sprained an ankle

Maybe I just haven't shot enough (or well enough) to get that *ONE* photo I personally would choose above all others.

EOS 7D Sigma 70-200 F2.8 (1.4 extender outdoors) are the workhorses. 50D for backup, EF 70-300MM USM f/4-5.6 IS, Freelance photographer for local newspapers and my website viewthroughmylens.net (external link)
