Last of '09

I braved the cold yesterday to get a few last ones before the new year. I'm glad I did because we now have a wind chill of -38 degrees fahrenheit. It appears we are going to be in the deep freeze for at least another week. I'm not enjoying it. There's nothing exciting here, but they are awful pretty birds. I promise to get more dramatic images in 2010.

Nice shots, good color. I always worry about my Cardinals, cause in really cold weather, I have seen them break chips off their beaks. Sometimes big chips. From what I have read, it can lead to infections.

I've never heard that. That doesn't sound good. Our actual temp this morning is -29. Thank goodness there isn't any wind yet.

I had never heard of it before either. That's why I was so surprised to see it. Here's a couple examples from '07.
