Where it came from is you got turned in for excess images. If you want to have your own gallery or blog on your "365" project, that's fine. If you want to talk about it, and others', here, that's fine. But POTN should not contain every one of your photo-a-day photos. Practice your editing skills to lure others to your gallery. As Pekka says in the Rules, which you were all supposed to have read (at least you acknowledged reading them) when you joined: "NOTE: Do not use the forum as your image gallery, post only the best of the best and link to the rest. In this way you are also more likely to get replies and comments."

I certainly don't intend to get into an argument about it but I posted five images, which was a selection of recent shots from my project. Not all of my shots by any means.

So...no more posting in this thread daily? Am I reading that right? Or is it just posting a series of images in one reply?

I'm not changing anything until Pekka steps in... The spirit of the rule (IMO) was to prevent image spam, and to prevent people from using the forum (and in particular, its attachment feature) as an image gallery. There's no difference in someone posting a 50 character text response or someone posting 50 characters of BB code that display an image. As long as you're not using the forum to attach an image, there's very little impact on the actual forum itself.

I do 100% agree you shouldn't be loading up one single post with a ton of images.. It's a pain to scroll through and bordering on obnoxious in some instances.. if you're going to do more than 2-3 at least make them small thumbnails.

Images posted in response are allowed...guess I'll pop in each day to ask everyone what they shot...lol.

I just find it odd that the way to enforce the rules seems to be to warn one particular member on the 377th page of a thread which contains many multiple photos by many different posters. But, you know, whatever.

What, I'm going away from the week-end to find out when I come back that we cannot post our picture-a-day here?

That makes me really sad, I was getting a lot of inspiration from you guys. I think we were all helping our-self here by commenting, critiquing and giving tips to each other. Sure I do find it annoying it when someone's comes in posting 8 pictures at a time, but not enough to enforce the picture rule to the letter.

As Brandon said, almost everyone one of us (if not everyone) has it's own webpage and simply links the pictures up here. We aren't using POTN servers to host our picture.

Last thing, I re-read the rules carefully, and here's what I saw:

Allowed # of images:

In 'Photo Sharing' section:

You may attach maximum of two (2) photos per thread. This means: you may attach up to 2 photos when you start a new thread. You may attach additional photos if requested, but only in a reply to other member's post and request.

You may embed maximum of eight (8) photos per thread. This means: you may embed up to 8 photos when you start a new thread. You may embed additional photos if requested, but only in a reply to other member's post. If photo size exceeds 1024x1024 box, you may not embed it: post a link (URL) to it instead.

The important part is here:

In other forums:

you may exceed above photo sharing limits, but only if discussion requires it (e.g. lens test examples, more problem example photos, competitions).

Isn't a 365 project a competition, a challenge? If so, in this thread, we are allowed to post more than 8 pictures per thread.

I'd find it really disappointing to only have the permission to post link to my pictures. We're all lazy and I really don't see myself clicking everyone's link to see their picture of the day.

I think too much is getting made out of this.. no one has come in to say we can't post our 365 photos in this thread.. just don't play catch-up and post ten days worth of photos at one time.

Keep it simple, respectful, don't spam. Pekka and the rest of the mods haven't had a problem in previous years with this thread, and I doubt they changed their minds just now.. someone just happened to post a lot of images all at once, so lets try to avoid that in the future.
