Sonic72, I hope you don't mind (you have okay'd editing) - I had a go at lightening your first shot in CS3. I just added an adjustment layer and tinkered with the exposure.
I love the tits. Wish we had them here.

The lightened version isn't blown out, I can see detail in all the white feathering on the head. Yours do look a little dark to me too. If you are seeing the lightened version as blown out, your monitor may need recalibrating.

Apart from that, lovely shots and very nicely taken.

The image doesn't look blown out, but it is flat, it needs to be somewhere in-between the two.
Blacks ought to be no darker than 95-98% black, and whites shouldn't be more than 2% white.
Use the INFO palette in Photoshop if you have it, move your cursor over the darkest areas and lightest ones to see what I mean.
There are tricks that you can do to find the areas mentioned, if you are interested.
If you use DPP or Lightroom, I would just say to play around with the light and darks in RAW, there is a lot of stuff in there in the later version that can help these kind'a shots out.
Just trying to help some, not be pushy, the shot above looks good as far as everything else, I'd love a shot at a pretty bird like that. :)
